Inspiration
We were primarily inspired by the game "Keep talking and nobody explodes". It evoked many emotions, ranging from fear and trepedition to satisfaction and fulfilment. Overall, it was intensely fun and entertaining, and we wanted to experience the game in real life, inspiring the creation of our mystery box.
What it does
Our project is simply a mystery box consisting of puzzles composed by arduino components. Players have to complete the puzzles in order to unlock the box by disabling the timer and win the game.
How we built it
We distributed the puzzles and desired hardware features across 4 different arduino uno boards. We had alot of fun and forsook our sleep cycles for this project's sake.
Challenges we ran into
We faced many challenges, from software, to hardware, to hunger cravings. Our more notable challenges included having to replace several faulty arduino boards after hours of trial and failure, accidentally mixing up resistors causing a wrong assumption that a component was faulty, as well as a lack of familiarity with the programming language and hardware utilised. Despite all this, we have managed emerge with a project we are all proud of.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the short project runway and the lack of experience relevant to this field, we are pleased with how quickly each group member was able to improvise, adapt and overcome the barrier of inexperience. We were resourceful in sourcing similar codes for learning and adapting purposes, and kept an open mind throughout the hackathon. At the end of the day, all of us are proud of how much we have learnt and grown over the past 24 hours.
What we learned
Apart from the technical skills acquired, such as a greater familiarity with the arduino components and how to utilise them, we learnt the importance of resilience, open-mindedness, and keeping an optimistic outlook to keep fighting on (especially against sleep).
What's next for This is Not A Bomb
Unfortunately, most of the hardware components were borrowed and have to be returned soon, limiting the future of such endeavors. However, the ideas and code will still live with us. Some ideas we had that we were unable to execute included a spray bottle that punished wrong answers and inefficient time management. This was, unfortunately, not feasible due to the shortage of a strong motor.
