Inspiration
I got inspiration for this while searching for the biggest problems in the world. Found carbon emission is one of the biggest problems that can be controlled by each individual. A quick Google search, I found there are not so many apps that make it fun to calculate the carbon emission, and all calculators were trying to fear-monger monger so I built one myself.
What it does
It calculates the carbon emissions made by a person based on their input data.
How we built it
I built it in one shot, took inspiration from Stich by Google for UI inspiration, and made the app with a single prompt in Bolt.new
The prompt was created with the help of Gemini.
Planning and research took me more than 2 hours; the rest of everything was done with just one prompt in Bolt.new
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was to come up with a beautiful design in just one prompt, but it became possible after proper planning and execution with other AI tools like Claude, Gemini, and Stitch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Honestly, I am proud that I was able to create this in just one prompt. It's a big achievement since I come from no coding or design background.
What we learned
I learned that proper planning and research are more valuable than technical skills when building with AI tools. Spending 2+ hours on research and prompt engineering made the difference between a generic calculator and something that actually addresses real user needs. I also discovered that combining multiple AI tools (Claude, Gemini, Bolt.new) creates better results than relying on just one. Most importantly, I learned that making environmental tools approachable and non-intimidating is crucial - people want to help the planet, but they don't want to be scared into action.
What's next for The Mother Earth - Personal Carbon Emission Calculator
I want to add gamification elements like achievement badges and monthly challenges to make carbon tracking genuinely engaging. Next, I'll integrate community features where users can share tips and compete in friendly sustainability challenges. I'm also planning to add personalized action plans with specific, achievable goals rather than just showing numbers.
Long-term, I want to partner with local businesses to offer real rewards for carbon reduction milestones, like discounts at eco-friendly stores or tree-planting certificates. The goal is to transform this from a one-time calculator into a daily habit that people actually enjoy using.
