Inspiration
According to mentalhealth.gov, in 2014, about 1 in 5 American adults experienced a mental health issue.
What it does
Our goal is to provide a friendly chat bot that cheers up users based on an analysis of their mood.
How we built it
We used Microsoft's Bot Framework as the core of our project, then integrated other APIs such as Image Search, Sentiment Analysis, YouTube, and Text Analysis to develop features of our bot. Finally, we implemented our bot by incorporating it into a webpage along with convenient health and wellness links for the user.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we had trouble getting the Microsoft Cognitive Services up and running, as well as searching for song APIs. Our original intent was to use Spotify playlists embedded in the chat bot's reply. However, when searching for alternative music platforms, we were inspired to include other types of media such as exercise videos.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our ability to integrate a wide variety of APIs successfully.
What we learned
We became much familiar with Git, APIs, and how to divvy up the work between team members while still managing to collaborate and learn from each other.
What's next for The Mood Booster
Our team is hopeful about the impact of The Mood Booster and we'd like to make chat bot more personalized as well as available on a wider number of platforms.
