Inspiration
In many Ghanaian households, pregnancy is treated as a matter of life and death. Though this is extreme, it highlights how pregnancy and childbirth immediately insinuate a possible death for the mother. With the rise of technological advancements and advances made in the medical field, maternal mortality should be a thing of the past. This is why we are taking action to promote good health and well-being in line with SDG 3. Our main focus is Target 3.1: Reducing global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
What it does
Our solution, The Mom Guard (TMG) is an application that tracks the health of women throughout their pregnancy and after childbirth. TMG tracks key indicators such as blood pressure, daily activity and diet to help generate a holistic health report to the health professional assigned to the mother. TMG also engages first responders in case an anomaly is detected and ensure that the (expectant) mother receives prompt healthcare.
How we built it
We built it using Flutter and Dart for the app and PostgreSQL for the database. We also used Figma to design the UI.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into were designing the UI in such a way to enhance the user's experience. Knowing what data to collect from the user was also quite the challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We came up with a catchy user interface, and designed a product that will help women around the world to experience a safe pregnancy and delivery. We also learned how to code
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate effectively and how to use Dart and Flutter.
What's next for The Mom Guard
The Mom Guard will be fully completed and rolled out on the various app stores. We hope to have prenatal sessions at various hospitals to introduce people to the app and to onboard many users.
