Inspiration
The Mirror was inspired by a simple moment: looking in the mirror and realizing that the reflection no longer feels like mine. In a world shaped by filters, algorithms, and digital beauty standards, I wanted to explore a question that haunts many of us:
What happens when the algorithm becomes the one who decides who we should be?
The project was also born from my personal journey - rediscovering self-acceptance, authenticity, and the quiet bravery of choosing “real” in a world obsessed with “perfect"
What it does
The Mirror is a short cinematic AI-driven film that follows a young woman whose reflection becomes increasingly distorted by algorithmic enhancements. What begins as slight digital “improvements” evolves into a complete erasure of her identity- until she confronts the illusion and chooses to reclaim herself.
The film combines:
AI-generated environments
AI-driven facial morphing
Realistic motion animation
Digital glitch symbolism
A poetic emotional arc about identity, pressure, and liberation
How I built it
I created the entire film using a hybrid AI pipeline designed to merge cinematic storytelling with digital distortion and emotional realism.
Canva for UI elements
Midjourney for generating cinematic base frames, character variations, and stylized imagery
Leonardo AI for crafting the polished influencer-style faces featured in the Instagram scroll sequence
Kling / VEO3 for motion generation, camera movement, reflection physics, and all morphing/glitch sequences
ElevenLabs for sound design, whispers, breaths, and emotional vocal textures
Suno for composing the original soundtrack blending softness with digital tension
CapCut for editing, compositing, timing, color grading, and glitch layering
ChatGPT & Claude for developing the screenplay, refining the narrative arc, crafting the storyboard, and generating detailed production instructions
Nono Banana for face refinement, character consistency, and transforming base images into polished, emotionally expressive visuals
I intentionally produced the entire film in 9:16 vertical format to echo the authentic Instagram experience and immerse the viewer inside the same algorithmic world that the protagonist struggles against. The workflow was built shot-by-shot, guided by a detailed storyboard, shot-list, and a 20-day production tracker I designed specifically for this film.
Challenges I ran into
Creating a film about losing identity ironically meant I had to fight to keep the character consistent across 26 different AI-generated shots. Every tool had a different “idea” of who she should be - which became both the core theme and the biggest production obstacle.
Major challenges included:
Maintaining the same character appearance across multiple models and generation tools
Creating believable mirror physics, including reflections, desynchronization, and digital lag
Ensuring emotional continuity between shots generated at different times and by different systems
Overcoming the “too perfect” aesthetics produced by beauty-biased AI models
Designing and animating UI elements (loading bars, beauty filters, notifications) in a way that feels natural and cinematic
Building a realistic Instagram-style scroll that blends seamlessly into the narrative without breaking immersion
Coordinating glitch, morphing, and pixelation effects so they feel purposeful and story-driven, not chaotic Balancing surreal, digital distortions with grounded emotional realism Achieving consistent lighting, color language, and pacing across AI-generated frames Every challenge forced me to direct the tools, not let the tools direct me - and ultimately shaped the film’s identity as a handcrafted AI creation.
Accomplishments that I proud of I created a full cinematic short film solo, using only consumer-level AI tools Built a complete visual identity and emotional arc Overcame the inherent limitations of generative models Developed a consistent character across all shots Achieved expressive, poetic visuals that feel “handcrafted,” not machine-made Translated a deeply personal message into a universal story But most of all: I proved to myself that one person, one idea, and one laptop can create something that once required an entire studio.
What I learned
AI filmmaking is less about “letting the model create,” and more about directing it with clarity and sensitivity
Emotion doesn’t come from realism-it comes from intention
Consistency across tools is one of the hardest creative tasks
Every glitch, morph, and distortion must be designed with meaning
Authenticity resonates more than perfection
AI didn’t make this film. It collaborated with me.

A behind-the-scenes breakdown to help other creators build cinematic AI films
Most importantly, I hope the film encourages viewers to pause, breathe, look at themselves- and see something real.
