Inspiration

Saran was always passionate about digital entertainment and proposed that we create a fun game that would still be challenging. Shrey and myself (Shiven) have little game development experience but are eager to learn and grow and thus we accepted the challenge and The Midnight Maze was created.

What it does

The game is an invisible maze. The player is only able to see the walls with their flashlight. The player is attempting to reach the portal (the exit) with all 3 flags before time runs out.

How we built it

For this game we used the pygame library and python. We leveraged many of the inbuilt functionalities of pygame such as their graphics and display, events, user input, sound, sprites and animation, time, collision detection, texts and fonts, and advanced image transformations to create The Midnight Maze.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenging aspects of developing our game included adding the walls, flags, and fog functionalities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We proud of staying true to our original idea and not having to change the project and having a functional game to submit by the end of the Hackathon.

What we learned

Through this project we all learned a lot about game development and hackathons in general. This was our first time competing in a Hackathon so we learn what it means to have to change your idea and work around any bugs you may encounter.

What's next for The Midnight Maze

In the next version we wanted to add villains who would chase you around in the maze that you can stun with the flashlight.
