Inspiration
We got inspiration from the Chromatic project in Technica Hackathon. We thought it would be interesting to create a map of each state's representation.
What it does
The website displays a map made from pictures about the most popular theme of a state. It displays which theme corresponding to which state below the map.
How I built it
We used Unsplash APIs to search for images and get their urls. Then we ran those urls with the google cloud vision api on gcp to collect labels of the images. We then compared each state's labels and we made the one that occurs the most the keywords of the state. Nest we ran unsplash to get the first pictures searcher by the keywords. We used python to generate a map of states represent in dots. Finally we used the plot as the frame, each state's picture and website builder to build a website.
Challenges I ran into
We found that most images contain the keyword sky so we eliminated it.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I successfully used jquery and node.js to utilize apis
What I learned
I have a better standing of apis and learned more node.js.
What's next for The Map Of Everything
We want to add link on map so that when people click on the an con on the map it will link them to a picture below. We also want to make map of other interesting objects. We want to create a map of faces, where we use computer vision api to analyze pictures in different states and then merge the faces or represent each state with a emoji.
