The Mall-E Project

Inspiration

We are 1st year colleges students from Mexico, this is our first hackaton and we wanted to solve a challenge that was related with our country and that could help other countries in the world! The earthquake of 2017 at Mexico City made a change in our society, as a community we all tried to help those persons that were seriously affected in that unfortunate event, we still have a lot of work to do, and that was our inspiration to help small local business and their communities. What about the name? When we started talking about the earthquake and the rubbles that were occasioned, we just thought at the same time about the Disney film Wall-E, about the message that it transmitted and also, about the fact that if we flipped the letter "w" it was an "m", from Mexico.

How does it functions?

It provides a healthy and secured way to obtain high quality products, getting some economically aids with the usage of greenhouses, where the community is in charge of the maintenance and protection of these, then giving for free all the crops to the local business and in exchange, the community will get a discount of the products in the business.

How we thought about it?

As a team, thanks to everyones ideas and contributions we were able to think of a project that could help our country and that could also help in other parts in the world.

Challenges we ran into

We got some trouble at thinking about how could we cover this topic being so young? but the most problematic thing that we got into was: How can we pass a Mexican project to the rest of the world? We are really proud of being Mexicans and we wanted to represent our country the best that we could.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

Whatever happens in this hackaton, we would like to continue with this project so one day we could help other people in the world, because we are really proud of what we have done.

What we learned

That a hackaton is a rollercoaster of feelings, and that sometimes time zones can really affect your work rate.

What's next for The Mall-E Project

Plan it more in detail, look for all kinds of alternatives to ensure that the greenhouses are safe in seismic zones and look for more people interested in continuing with the project
