Inspiration

We wanted to make learning the multiplication chart a fun and competitive experience! Gamification of learning has shown time and time again to increase engagement and motivation.

What it does

Compete with other people by racing through a maze. Solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems along the way that guide you towards the finish. Players can join the game on their own computers and see live updating positions of other players.

How we built it

We built the game using pygame. We used python sockets to implement multiplayer functionality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a fully working multiplayer game in just 24 hours when none of our team had past experience building games.

What's next for The Maize Race

We see The Maize Race being used in K-12 classrooms. Having teachers be able to upload their own problems and answers for students to race through would be a natural next step.
