Team Lead Discord Name: Miss Bubbles#5634
Inspiration
I was thinking about this year's theme. Naturally, Oregon Trail made an appearance in my thoughts. And who doesn't like Oregon Trail (don't answer that)?!? So, this is a medieval version of the classic game full of death and dysentery.
What it does
The application is a Discord bot that can be played with the starting command "-play".
How we built it
All Discord.py, baby!
Challenges we ran into
- I was flying solo on this one, so I of course ran out of time to make this game even cooler (RIP nifty pixel animations)
- For some reason, I kept using the same variable names over again for different types, causing many vague errors that took me far too long to debug. I'm blaming that on my currently fried brain.
- Testing is difficult, to say the least, when you are the only one playing a 5-player game. Let's just say I died 5 times as much as an Oregon-Trail-type player reasonably should.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's complete! Yes, more things could be added for sure, but the game works!
What we learned
I had not worked much with embed type message before until now. This was also a great refresher on Discord bot creation.
What's next for The Magical and Malevolent Medieval Trail
After a very long nap from all the coding, I hope to add more features to it (gotta have some dragon hunting at landmarks and maybe an unexpected witch hunt). I also really want to add images. I had planned to do that from the start but realized pretty quickly that I would not have time to do functionality and UI.
