Inspiration

The Lucky Coin was inspired by the simplicity and innocence of childhood moments — small arguments, quick laughter, and the lessons that shape who we become. I wanted to create a warm, positive story that teaches children the value of sharing and kindness. The sunny town square, the funny policeman, and the two boys with strong personalities all came from memories of simple childhood friendships.

What it does

This project was created using an AI-assisted animation workflow that combined multiple tools to achieve consistent characters and a soft cinematic style.

How we built it

Visual scenes were generated and refined using Runway Gen-4, while character elements and backgrounds were created with Open AI and Freepik. Additional refinement, motion variations, and scene corrections were achieved using Kling, Minimax Hailuo. Narrative structure, prompt iteration, and visual direction were developed with the help of OpenAI (ChatGPT) and music with Suno AI. Finally, all scenes were edited, color-balanced, and mixed in CapCut to produce the final short film.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was maintaining strong character consistency across various scenes — especially the curly red-haired boy, the boy with glasses, and the expressive policeman. Achieving subtle emotions (debating, laughing, agreeing) required multiple prompt refinements and many failed attempts due to tool limitations. The process also involved extensive color correction, timing adjustments, and scene stabilization to maintain the warm, cinematic tone. Balancing an AI workflow while keeping the animation child-friendly and emotionally clear was another technical difficulty.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a warm and emotionally positive story that teaches young children the value of kindness and sharing. Achieved consistent character design across all scenes, keeping the curly red-haired boy, the boy with glasses, and the policeman visually stable and expressive. Built a complete AI-powered animation workflow, combining several tools while maintaining a unified cinematic style. Balanced humor, emotion, and educational value, making the story enjoyable for both kids and parents. Produced a polished final film with smooth pacing, cohesive color grading, and charming character expressions.

What we learned

Through this project, I learned how to coordinate multiple AI platforms into a unified artistic pipeline. I gained experience in refining prompts for emotional clarity, controlling style consistency across tools, and resolving the visual “drift” that often happens with AI character animation. Most importantly, I learned how to build a gentle, positive children’s story using AI tools in a way that preserves humanity, warmth, and storytelling quality.

What's next for The Lucky Coin

The Lucky Coin is meant to stand as a complete, self-contained children’s short story. For now, there are no direct sequels planned — the story delivers its message fully on its own.
