Inspiration
As an Egyptian, I am totally obsessed with ancient Egyptian history. Also, that history is full of art and symbols which considered as the source of our icon methodology of communication in today’s high-end devices. This triggers a passion for me to try to use their old way symbolism in our today’s activities especially within games. I tried in three simple trivia games and now I am here with this totally new game idea.
What it does
The game is a color memory game that gives the player the chance to put the hieroglyphs symbols with a certain color in the corresponding place. The game also allows the player to learn hieroglyphs through memorizing the Arabic letters corresponding to these symbols.
How I built it
I used an open-source game engine called G develop to build the game. Also, I built all the game assets using Adobe Illustrator. I have recorded the story sound using my own voice and a little sound editing on Adobe Audition.
Challenges I ran into
I built a classic matching game once but this was not really the same as I challenged my self on more than one aspect, I learned the software as I was just a newbie and didn't have the needed skills to manage a whole multilevel game inside G develop. I researched a lot of game concepts to find a kind of new game concept for my game(I hope I did it). I worked on the graphic assets a lot to reach an appealing design trying to keep the hieroglyphic inspiration live in the game. Finally, I was trying to find the middle line between the player finding the game very hard to pass and it to be easy and not very challenging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I worked on a full game project and I reach out to the production stage, this is a very cool thing.
What I learned
I learned a lot about game logic and game design, I was inside but now I am a little bit deeper into the world of game development.
What's next for The Little Pharaoh
As I am already trying to establish my own game development brand called EGYPHS with three published games on Google Play, the little Pharaoh is going to be live on Google play ASAP. Maybe with some enhancements as the deadline was near enough to prevent me from reaching all the needed functionalities within time.
