The ldiot, The Shell, The Logos

Inspiration

This film is adapted from The Karma by Cang Yue Sheng, originally published in Science Fiction World. The creative team distilled the novel's core themes of individual and collective existence, drawing on the threefold symbols of “the Idiot,” “the Shell,” and “the Logos.” Through AI technology and artisanal craftsmanship, the film expands the boundaries of both vision and narrative.

What it does

It is another exploratory advancement in purely AI-generated sci-fi films, and we are attempting to push the boundaries of storytelling in AI-created movies.

How we built it

Our core creative team builds the script and setting ourselves. AI is responsible for generating the visuals and music, and then we add manual voice-overs and do the post-production editing.

Challenges we ran into

While ensuring a clear narrative logic, we need to control the consistency of character performances, scenes/characters/props, and the rationality of camera movement; overcome the sense of absurdity caused by AI; and ultimately focus the film on cinematic storytelling rather than on the AI itself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We completed the production of a sci-fi short film with considerable watchability using AI tools within one month. Its strengths in storytelling, visual aesthetics, design, camera rationality, and performance credibility have all been verified, bringing new opportunities to the production of traditional sci-fi films.

What we learned

AI today is not about replacement, but collaboration. Current AI tools lack human emotion in all aspects, including narrative creation, visual output, and sound design. The essence of narrative is emotion, so we must command AI, not be commanded by it.

What's next for The ldiot, The Shell, The Logos

We will continue to optimize our workflow based on the production process of this film and our team's aesthetic shaping capabilities. We have set the duration of our next film at 30 minutes, with the ultimate goal of gradually enabling AI-generated films to be screened in cinemas.
