Inspiration

Inspiration

The project began with a simple but unsettling idea: what if a dying child—the symbol of innocence—expressed wishes that were anything but innocent? From there grew a desire to explore emotional collapse, moral pressure, and the danger of words spoken in frustration. Classic bedside horror, supernatural twist stories, and minimalist psychological thrillers shaped the tone. The confined hospital setting was inspired by the tension of small spaces where emotions have nowhere to escape.

What it does

THE LAST WISH delivers a tightly focused horror experience blending realistic drama with supernatural dread. Through a short horror story, supported by AI-generated visuals, motion, and voice, it immerses the audience in a claustrophobic room where innocence turns to terror and reality fractures. The project demonstrates how narrative, imagery, audio, and animation can combine to create an emotionally charged micro-story with cinematic impact.

How we built it

The story was developed through iterative text generation and refinement. The visuals were created using Google Labs (Whisk), capturing the sterile yet ominous atmosphere of a hospital room. Motion elements were added through Hailuo AI, bringing subtle animation to still images. Lip-sync was achieved with Higgfield Kling, ensuring characters delivered dialogue naturally. ElevenLabs provided the voice performances, emphasizing realism and emotional nuance. Each element was manually selected, adjusted, and assembled into a cohesive final experience.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining the balance between realism and horror was a major challenge. Early story drafts leaned too heavily in one direction or the other, requiring multiple revisions to get the tone right. Visually, AI tools often produced images that were either too polished or unintentionally exaggerated, making it difficult to preserve subtlety. Motion animation introduced artifacts that broke immersion, and lip-sync tests initially produced mismatched timing. Creating a consistent aesthetic across text, visuals, and audio required repeated experimentation and careful curation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a unified, atmospheric horror piece using multiple AI systems working together. The final story delivers emotional impact, pacing, and tension that match the intended tone. The visuals and motion sequences elevate the narrative rather than distract from it. Achieving a cohesive, polished result from tools that often behave unpredictably is a significant accomplishment, especially for a horror project where mood and timing must be precise.

What we learned

We learned how essential iteration is when blending multiple AI tools—no single output is ever final on the first try. We discovered the importance of controlling tone with careful prompting, and how small changes in phrasing can dramatically alter results. Working with motion and lip-sync tools showed us how delicate visual realism is, and how easily it can be disrupted. Above all, we learned how powerful AI can be as a creative collaborator when guided with clear vision.

What’s next for THE LAST WISH

Future plans include expanding the story into a longer short film or multi-scene narrative. We’re exploring the possibility of creating alternate versions with different endings, interactive story paths, and a more cinematic audio mix. Continued refinement of visual consistency and emotional realism will help push the project toward a festival-ready short. There is also potential to develop the concept into a series of micro-horror stories exploring the consequences of seemingly innocent wishes.
