The Last Werewolf was inspired by the idea of taking a classic supernatural creature and grounding it in a gritty, modern world. I wanted to explore what a werewolf story would feel like if it were treated more like a high-stakes hunting documentary or a neo-Western thriller instead of traditional fantasy horror. The result is a tense, atmospheric short centered on obsession, frustration, and the relentless pursuit of something that refuses to be found.

What it does

This short film tells the story of a hunter struggling to track down the last surviving werewolf—an elusive creature that seems to outsmart every trap. Through tense dialogue, stark locations, and a moody visual tone, the film creates a suspenseful snapshot of a world where monster hunting is a profession and failure is expensive.

How we built it

The project was created entirely with advanced AI filmmaking tools and a streamlined production pipeline.

VEO / Gemini / Runway for cinematic scene generation Topaz + Krea for upscaling and sharpening CapCut for final pacing, edits, and audio design All elements—from landscapes to character performances—were shaped through prompt engineering, iterative scene refinement, and careful mood control to achieve the grounded thriller aesthetic.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was tone control. It was easy for AI tools to lean too far into fantasy or too far into realism. Achieving the perfect balance—a gritty, grounded world that still feels supernatural—required many iterations. Getting the werewolf design consistent across shots was also a technical challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud of how the film successfully reframes the werewolf myth into something modern, tense, and cinematic. The pacing, dialogue, and atmosphere all work together to create suspense in under 90 seconds. I’m also proud of how clean and professional the final edit looks despite being built entirely with AI tools.

What we learned

This project taught me a lot about manipulating AI models to achieve controlled tension rather than spectacle. I learned new methods for maintaining character consistency, matching lighting across scenes, and shaping dialogue-driven storytelling in short form. It also deepened my understanding of world-building through mood and minimalism.

What's next for The Last Werewolf – A Gritty Supernatural Thriller

This short is the beginning of a larger concept exploring supernatural creatures through a grounded, documentary-style lens. Future installments may follow the hunter into increasingly dangerous encounters—or flip perspectives and follow the werewolf itself. The world is rich, and there’s much more to tell.
