Inspiration

The idea came from a late-night thought: what if emotions could be traded like currency? In a world obsessed with optimization, I imagined a woman who finds an ATM that lets her exchange anxiety for calm. At first, it feels like liberation until she realizes she’s losing something essential: her own emotional truth. The concept was inspired by Severance, burnout culture, and my own experiences of emotional avoidance and creative exhaustion.

What it does

“The Last Transaction” is a short, fully AI-generated film exploring emotional dependency through surreal imagery and repetition. It visualizes a psychological loop the illusion of control over inner chaos — and asks whether comfort at any cost is worth the trade.

How we built it

Created in just 48 hours for Runway’s AI Film Challenge, the film was produced entirely using generative tools. I handled every stage from concept and script to visuals, sound design, and final edit.

Challenges we ran into

Working within a 48-hour window pushed every limit time, processing power, and creative focus. Rendering delays, model inconsistencies, and unpredictable AI outputs forced me to adapt fast. The hardest part was shaping a coherent emotional arc while everything kept evolving in real time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Though it didn’t win, the film reached emotional clarity through chaos. I’m proud that it resonated with others in the Runway community and that I managed to translate a philosophical idea into a compact visual story under extreme pressure.

What we learned

AI filmmaking isn’t about perfection it’s about improvisation. I learned how to surrender control, listen to what the models “suggest,” and weave that into the story. The project taught me to work faster, think more visually, and embrace technical unpredictability as part of the art.

What’s next for The Last Transaction

I plan to expand it into a short series exploring emotional trades fear for control, love for certainty, peace for passion. The next version will combine generative visuals with live footage, diving deeper into the tension between automation and human feeling.
