Inspiration
Our team's had a long-held interest in historical events like the Cuban and Haitian revolutions, and we wanted to fuse that with our gamedev experience. First-person games give the player unparalleled perspective into lives they haven't lived.
What it does + how we built it
The Last Ship uses Blender to create a small town and interactable NPCs. Your choices define a branching storyline with multiple endings. The whole game was built and hosted on Three.js.
Challenges we ran into
Collision mechanics in 3D are always a struggle. It's also hard to tell a complex story in a concise and meaningful way, when there are only so many hours to spend branching off!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We had to learn Blender in less than a day to cobble the environment together and it's honestly astonishing that it turned out as well as it did.
What's next for The Last Ship
Better rendering and beta testing of the story, various glitches, etc.
