🌱 Inspiration
Climate change, deforestation, and environmental destruction inspired this project. We imagined a future where every forest had disappeared and humanity was left with only one final seed.
Rather than building another ordinary website, we wanted to tell an emotional story using immersive 3D visuals and interactive scrolling. The goal was to remind people that hope often begins with one small action.
🌍 What it does
The Last Seed is a cinematic storytelling website that follows the journey of humanity's final surviving seed.
Visitors scroll through different chapters:
🌱 The Beginning
🏜️ The Dying Earth
🌧️ The Rain Returns
🌳 The New Forest
✨ A New Beginning
The experience combines animated storytelling, interactive scrolling, glowing 3D graphics, camera movement, atmospheric particles, and smooth transitions to create an emotional journey from destruction to hope.
🛠️ How we built it
We built the project using:
- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript
- Three.js
- WebGL
- Netlify
- GitHub
The 3D seed was modeled procedurally using Three.js by modifying sphere geometry into a seed shape. Lighting, glow effects, floating camera movement, mouse interaction, and animations were added to create an immersive experience.
⚡ Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating a believable 3D seed from code instead of importing a model.
We also faced issues with camera movement, lighting, glow synchronization, animation timing, JavaScript debugging, responsive layouts, and deployment.
Each challenge improved both the technical implementation and the storytelling experience.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a complete 3D storytelling experience
- Creating our own animated seed entirely in Three.js
- Designing cinematic scrolling sections
- Adding interactive camera and mouse movement
- Deploying successfully on Netlify
- Creating a polished experience using only frontend technologies
📚 What we learned
This project taught us how storytelling can be combined with modern web technologies.
We gained practical experience with:
- Three.js
- WebGL rendering
- 3D lighting
- Camera animation
- Interactive effects
- Performance optimization
- Deploying production-ready frontend projects
🚀 What's next for The Last Seed
Future versions will include:
- Forest growth generated procedurally
- Interactive environmental choices
- Sound effects and ambient music
- Mobile motion controls
- More cinematic camera sequences
- Additional story chapters and endings
