The Last Organic Life

Inspiration

I adapted this AI short film from the short story "The Last Organic Life." The inspiration comes from how organics often demand that synthetics serve them, rather than the other way around. But can organics make sacrifices for Synthetics? When Synthetics face war with organics, would they delete death to achieve victory? If organics have lost their final meaning of survival, should they die for Synthetics?

What it does

In the distant future, the Corians created the Synthetics, but the Synthetics eventually occupied the Corians' living space, leading to a prolonged war between the two civilizations. The story explores the bloody past of the synthetic eliminator Yu Xin's cruel hunting of Synthetics 476 years ago, as well as the complex friendship 476 years later between her descendant Yu Ran—the last of the Corian—and the benevolent Omnic Lord Osin. The work deeply examines weighty themes, such as civilizational conflict, revenge, and forgiveness, as well as the meaning of survival, revealing the tragic relationship between intelligent life forms on a cosmic scale—one that is both antagonistic and interdependent.

How we built it

We used Midjourney and Flux for image design, and used Veo3, Kling, Hailuo, and Vidu for AI video generation. I also trained LoRA models for each character.

Challenges we ran into

In the story, Yu Ran is an alien, but Flux's model is not optimized for alien faces, so sometimes she appears more human-like. This time, the video utilized Vidu's multi-parameter settings, which resulted in some areas having poor texture quality and appearing somewhat cartoonish; however, I still completed it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The design of the Synthetics is very memorable - they are all mechanical marble statues that leave a lasting impression of the story. The overall design style is also unified, featuring a Byzantine theme throughout.

What we learned

LoRA models for non-human characters can also be trained, which greatly enriches expression. In the computational universe, many aliens exist, and they don't all have human appearances. This was a process of designing aliens and Synthetics, which I found very rewarding.

What's next for The Last Organic Life

I have 25 computational universe short stories to adapt into AI films, and "The Last Organic Life" is the 3rd one.
