Inspiration
Artificial intelligence has evolved through decades of groundbreaking research, yet its history is often presented as static timelines or dense articles. I wanted to transform that history into something people could experience rather than simply read. The idea was to build an interactive museum where every breakthrough feels like a memory waiting to be discovered.
What it does
The Last Memory is an immersive 3D museum that tells the story of artificial intelligence through cinematic environments, interactive artifacts, and authentic historical milestones. Visitors explore nearly a century of AI history—from Alan Turing's early ideas to modern agentic AI—in a visually engaging and educational experience.
How I built it
The project was built using Next.js, React Three Fiber, Three.js, TypeScript, and GSAP. I combined real historical data with custom 3D environments, interactive museum exhibits, dynamic lighting, particle systems, and smooth camera transitions to create a cinematic web experience.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing visual quality with browser performance. Managing complex 3D scenes, animations, shaders, and interactions while maintaining a smooth experience required careful optimization. Another challenge was presenting decades of AI history in a way that felt both accurate and engaging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of Built a fully interactive 3D museum in the browser. Turned AI history into an immersive storytelling experience. Combined historical accuracy with modern web graphics and interaction design. Created a project that is both educational and visually compelling. What I learned
This project taught me a great deal about real-time 3D rendering, performance optimization, interactive storytelling, and designing user experiences that make complex technical topics accessible and engaging.
What's next
Future improvements include expanding the historical archive with additional milestones, adding multilingual support, introducing guided exploration modes, and enhancing accessibility so the experience can reach a wider audience.
