Inspiration
NBA Jam, Old retro pixel games from Super Nintendo. Ability to play live with other Reddit was a big goal thats upcoming, we have Post challenges right now which is the first taste of multiplayer.
What it does
You can play, collect, draft players that level up and play with other redditors. Users can also trade players once they have over 5 drafted players
How we built it
We created the game with a team of pixel artists we found on Reddit. We built tools to emulate what games between redditors look like on mobile, desktop, and learned how to utilize reddit's redis layer. We integrate meaningful monetization and also a very deep redis layer to save scores, collectibles, and ranking
Challenges we ran into
Learning Devvit was a lot of fun. We created a lot of tools we will be sharing with the community to publish your game and test them effectively. Its important to create the virality in sharing game posts, and having moments you want to share to the community. We wanted to emphasize that and make it a really aesthetically appealing game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We actually have done 3 other games before this one, but The Last Draft we hope to be continuously building with the community. Its designed with a lot of inspiration from our friends at Sword and Supper at Cabbage Systems. We integrated meaningful monetization, but with a focus on capturing those nostalgic feelings of growing up with Super Nintendo's or Arcade cabinet NBA Jam.
What we learned
We learned Reddit is a lot of fun and growing so fast and we really believe in continuing to build on Reddit especially with the new funding mechanisms such as capturing monthly active engagers. We want to build compelling reasons not just for users to play, but also to communicate and build the community
What's next for The Last Draft
Ranked Mode PVP is the next mode, having enough players to continuously match up againsnt opponents is our next big goal
