Inspiration

Our team was driven to solve the problem of tracing contagious illnesses in schools, specifically motivated by what we saw as a lackluster and obscure tracing process in our own district.

What it does

The app provides a place for infections from COVID and other contagious illnesses to be reported by students and teachers, allowing them to easily and quickly be aware of potential risks that they may have been exposed to. The app integrates with Powerschool to import seating charts and quickly send specialized notifications to students very close to positive cases of contagious illness.

How we built it

The app was built using Android Studio, with the same tools used by professional Android developers.

Challenges we ran into

  • Picking an idea
  • Coordinating the team in working together
  • Communication of changes and ideas

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Synthesizing all our ideas and priorities into a fleshed out concept
  • Creating an effective solution
  • Completing the app and pitch!

What we learned

  • How to best coordinate a team and have productive meetings
  • Better ways to collaborate and take other ideas into account when developing
  • Principles of accessible, appealing user interface design
  • Foundations in Kotlin, Java, and Android Studio
