Inspiration
I wanted to create something within VR that was reminiscent of a childhood classic with a new dimension and atmosphere. Instead of Hippos, as the game was inspired from, I went with giant wall monsters that I brought to life.
What it does
THE HVNGER is a multiplayer VR game where players race to collect bouncing orbs and feed them to their team’s giant wall monsters. Teams compete to outscore their rivals by feeding their monsters faster while sabotaging opponents by stealing orbs from their mouths. The result is a high-energy, competitive experience full of strategy and chaotic fun.
How we built it
I purely utilized the tools within the VR version of the Meta Horizon world editor. I scripted and crafted every aspect of this project myself, and this has by far been the most complex project I've created to date.
Challenges we ran into
There were definite roadblocks in terms of writer's bock and uncharted territories in terms of my codeblocks scripting capabilities. Through determination and dedication, I was able to combat these obstacles headfirst and accomplish creative tasks that I would have never thought I'd be able to do before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing this project in and of itself was a huge win for me. I'm extremely proud of my work, and I've surprised myself at how far I've come. The biggest "W" would be if this game gets positive feedback from the community. That would tell me that I'm doing something right.
What we learned
I learned so much just from tacking this project head-on. Building the world was one thing, but scripting it was by far the biggest head scratcher. Nonetheless, I've gained so much more knowledge and skillsets just by partaking in this, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience overall.
What's next for THE HVNGER
There is SO much potential for this game! Throwing orbs into mouths is just one game mode that is available at launch. I'm already in the works to creating new game modes that utilize the components of the world, and they will be selectable before the start of each game. Additionally, the inclusion of durable and consumable power-ups, IWP, and much more. I'm really excited for the future of THE HVNGER, and I cannot wait to start expanding this game.
