SafeGuard AI addresses a critical gap in public awareness about human trafficking by creating an AI-powered educational platform that delivers accurate, verified information from authoritative sources. In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly online, this project combats false narratives by providing only government-verified data from the Canadian Department of Justice, Public Safety Canada, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Built specifically for the Hack the Valley hackathon under the 'Revolutionizing Learning' and 'Inclusive Innovation' themes, SafeGuard AI transforms complex legal frameworks and statistical data into accessible, conversational knowledge that anyone can understand. The chatbot uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology through prompt engineering to ensure responses are grounded in verified facts, covering topics from warning signs and prevention strategies to legal frameworks and support resources. By making critical safety information available through a simple, single-file web application powered by Google's Gemini AI, SafeGuard AI democratizes access to life-saving knowledge, helping communities recognize trafficking situations and take appropriate action. This project demonstrates how AI can be harnessed for social good, creating a scalable solution that could be deployed in schools, community centers, and online platforms to educate the public and ultimately help prevent human trafficking through increased awareness and understanding
