86% of people who apply for palliative care do not receive it. 83% lacks access to pain relief. 98% of children requiring palliative care live in low-income countries. Palliative care is often confused with Hospice care. Therefore, there is an urgent need to raise awareness of palliative care. Palliative care significantly impacts quality of life of patient, which has significant role in improving patient's mental health who are suffering from diagnosis relating to anxiety and depression.
What it does
This is a crowd-sourcing platform where patients can share their experiences and stories with mental health. This also allows people to connect and share their stories.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the challenge of utilizing PHP in order to allow a data stream for which users can contribute to software data. From this, we had to utilize an example of chat with normal html code to simulate chat, rather than implementing PHP for chatting software itself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a platform where patients and individuals can come together and share their experiences with mental health, thus helping create a community of hope, positivity, and togetherness to combat mental health conditions in these difficult time of COVID-19.
What we learned
I learned the fundamentals regarding the implementation of PHP behind social platforming software that operates in the context of chatting capabilities. Furthermore, we were able to utilize numerous input and form elements, that mimic real-world business web-scripting. We also had two students with sufficient knowledge in the medical field, thereby creating a multi-disciplinary team.
What's next for The Hope Community
We wish to implement a video chat and allow users to form focus groups in the future. We also wish to provide referral facilities for palliative care with geolocation. And provide additional health-care services by palliative care workers who provide health care based on a subscription-based model.
