Inspiration

The rising issue of counterfeit and adulterated food products in South Africa and other African communities inspired us to develop a solution that ensures food safety and authenticity.

What it does

This solution uses blockchain verification seals on food products, allowing consumers to scan QR codes and verify the origin and safety of their food through a user-friendly mobile app.

How we built it [To be built]

  • Blockchain Technology: Implemented on the Algorand platform for secure and fast transactions.
  • User Interface: Developed with React Native for a seamless cross-platform mobile app experience.
  • Smart Contracts: Uses Algorand’s smart contracts to ensure transaction verification and product authenticity.
  • Backend Integration: Uses Python-based backend with Algorand SDK for efficient processing.

Challenges we ran into [Could run into]

  • Ensuring seamless integration between the blockchain platform and the mobile app.
  • Overcoming technical difficulties related to smart contract implementation.
  • Addressing scalability and user adoption in diverse communities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Aligning our project with SDG 2: Zero Hunger to support global efforts in ensuring food security.
