Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was to help youth our age in Lynn that were struggling with finding resources, and help The Haven Project, which directly works with them, using the skills we had.
What it does
Our project has two main parts: a hard-coded career builder tool that helps The Haven Project's clients build a small profile related to their journey, career aspirations, and skills. This can be used for building a resume, part of a interview application letter , or for use on the second part of our project: a client page on Haven's website. Our second focus was making a new page for The Haven Project's coffee shop in Lynn, The Land of a Thousand Hills. This was a page built for future potential employers to connect with youth in The Haven Project's program. Youth bios and information could go here.
How we built it
We built the career builder tool using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. We also integrated our tool with ChatGPT AI to help link and structure the ideas that the clients provide through our tool's form. Our webpage was made on Wordpress, which is what The Haven Project uses, so it would be easy to add our page to their website if they decide to use our hack.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues with Wordpress, which wouldn't let us directly link our carrier builder tool with the website or let us use plug-ins. We also struggled to code some things, but thankfully managed to work through the issues in the time of the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We ended up accomplishing more than our initial idea was, taking on a more challenging hack and putting out a useable end product.
What we learned
Through this hackathon our individual team members learned and practiced many skills: writing scripts, pitching, coding in Javascript, to name a few.
What's next for The Haven Project - A Career Builder Tool
If this project is used by the Haven Project, we would add more questions on the career builder tool that we didn't have time during the hack to add. We would also try to link up the two parts of our project more so The Haven doesn't have to manually add the career bios clients generate into their website.
