Inspiration
"The Haunted Manor" was born from a passion for immersive storytelling and puzzle-solving. We wanted to create an adventure that draws players into a world of mystery, where every corner of the mansion holds a new secret or challenge. The story of a historian, driven by curiosity and aided by an anonymous woman, provided the perfect backdrop for a chilling and engaging experience.
What it does
"The Haunted Manor" is an immersive adventure puzzle game set within a mysterious and eerie mansion. Players take on the role of a historian who uncovers secrets, solves intricate puzzles, and faces formidable foes, including a fearsome wolf, in a quest to escape the mansion's grip. The game combines narrative depth with interactive gameplay to create a truly engaging experience.
How we built it
The game was developed using the Godot game engine, leveraging GDScript, JavaScript, C#, and PLSQL to build over 20 interactive puzzles and narrative elements. AI-driven platform procedural content generation was implemented to ensure dynamic and unpredictable game assets, streamlining the production process. Efficient management of over 500 project assets was achieved through version control systems like GitHub, allowing seamless collaboration and development.
Challenges we ran into
One of the significant challenges was ensuring that the game's puzzles were not only challenging but also intuitive and rewarding for the players. Balancing the narrative flow with gameplay mechanics, particularly with the AI-driven content generation, required careful tuning and iteration. Additionally, managing the large number of assets and maintaining a cohesive visual and audio experience across the game was a complex task that pushed our skills to the limit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are particularly proud of the storytelling in "The Haunted Manor." The way the narrative unfolds as players progress through the game, along with the integration of puzzles and challenges, creates a rich and immersive experience. The successful implementation of AI-driven procedural content generation is another highlight, as it adds a layer of dynamism to the game that enhances replayability.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned the importance of balancing narrative and gameplay, ensuring that one complements the other. We also gained valuable experience in using AI to enhance game development, particularly in procedural content generation. Collaboration and effective asset management were crucial in maintaining the quality and consistency of the game.
What's next for The Haunted Manor
We are excited to announce that we are working on iOS and Android versions of "The Haunted Manor," allowing players to enjoy the game on the go. Additionally, we plan to continue refining the game based on player feedback and expanding the story with new levels and challenges. We welcome contributions from developers, designers, and enthusiasts to help us further enhance the gaming experience.
