Inspiration
Sometimes when you’re feeling down, you need a reminder of the things that have brought you joy. This is especially true in recent times, as many of us face mental health challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to create something that would help people spread happiness to themselves and others during rough times.
What it does
The Happiness Vault lets you add happy thoughts and memories to save for later. When you're feeling down, you can read a message from your happiness vault to lift your spirits. You can also add messages to your friends’ vaults. When you read a message from your vault, you’ll either see something you wrote or something someone you love added for you.
How we built it
We built this mobile app using React Native, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
It was challenging to work with some technologies we didn't have as much experience with. We also had trouble debugging some package installation issues, but we were able to figure it out by the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working full-stack mobile app in less than 24 hours. We worked hard on a project with a purpose that was meaningful to us. We had a really fun time and learned a lot along the way.
What we learned
We learned how to work with frontend and backend technologies and how to get them to communicate with each other. We learned that when working as a team, communication is key.
What's next for The Happiness Vault
Our next step would be adding other types of media to the vault, such as images, videos, audio clips, links, and more. We would also implement a way to add friends and search for other users on the app.
