My Inspiration

I've always struggled with autism and ADHD, and forming habits was difficult. If I didn't have something I could point to for progress, I just couldn't hold onto the motivation to continue, but every way to remember was just too complicated. My inspiration came from wishing I could help my younger self.

What is the Habit Garden?

The Habit Garden is a simple mobile habit tracker designed to keep you motivated. Plant habit plants and track your progress and setbacks and watch your garden grow as you do.

How did I build it?

The Habit Garden is entirely programmed in C# on the Unity engine, compiled for Android.

What were the challenges?

My biggest challenge was my own way of thinking, where I would bounce between different methods of coding the same thing and then land in a spot where I had to make them all work together. I was able to solve this by asking for company while coding so the people around me could keep me on track.

My proud accomplishments

I'm proud of this being my first Android application. It was daunting because I've never done anything with mobile apps before, but it was a really good learning experience.

What I learned

I learned a bit more about C#. I'm much more familiar with Python, but I wanted to take a bit more of a leap and code somewhere I was less confident in.

What's next for The Habit Garden?

I'd like to port this to iOS next so everyone has a chance to use it, and maybe create a desktop port as a side project.
