Inspiration

We wanted to create an Iron Man based design to help visually impaired people in their every day activities, and empower them with their daily lives.

What it does

It sends ultrasonic pulses to objects in order to help visually impaired people navigate the world. The device sends haptic feedback to their phones in order to get a better sense of the world. It also includes an emergency calling button, so they can ask for help during dire situations.

How We Built It

We built it using a Raspberry Pi, Breadboards, Ultrasonic sensors. We programmed the connection between the raspberry pi and phone using a Node.JS server and SQL, and programmed the android app using Java. We programmed the raspberry pi and hardware using Python.

Challenges We Ran Into

The hardware gave some errors, and we had to spend a bit of time debugging it. It was our first server based webapp, so we had some difficulty programming it. Manufacturing the enclosure in such a limited time was challenging as well since we had to design and manufacture it in the 24h.

What we learned

We learned how to program using Node.JS, building a web server, Python hardware coding, and 3D modelling.
