Inspiration

The Green Room aims to empower people to incorporate more greenery into their lives by selecting plants they can easily care for and cherish. Our AR-driven experience makes it fun and engaging to visualize these plants in their space, and with personalized recommendations, users feel confident that their new plants will thrive.

What it does

The Green Room is an AR app that lets users visualize a variety of plants in their own space. Through a blend of AR, interactive plant information, and ai-driven personalized recommendations, the app helps users choose the perfect plants based on their unique environment and lifestyle. Users can view the plants in AR, learn about each plant's care requirements and optimal placement, and even analyse where in their room these plants would fit best.

How we built it

We built The Green Room using Swift and ARKit, and we fetch plant data from OpenAI's API to dynamically generate care information, plant descriptions, and optimal placement advice for each selected plant. We incorporated user-centered UI/UX design principles to make it easy to navigate and engaging to use, adding customization options that allow users to explore a variety of plants in a way that feels personal.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon, and so time management was a bit of an issue. I am currently writing this at 7:46 am, so you can really tell how its going. Other than that, working with AR was super chalenging, especially beign able to drag and resize objects. Swift itself wasnt terrible, but it was also a new experience for us, and took a lot of getting used to. It was also hard getting both pngs and 3d models of the plants to view in AR

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are super proud of completing a working product, and its something that looks nice. It also works as intended, aside from a few minor issues. The API integrations all work, and the AR looks very smooth.

What we learned

Time is precious, dont waste it. Also, might be good to learn more beforehand about the language if we decide to make a project in it

What's next for The Green Room

Shopping integration, change plants and their pots n stuff? maybe? add a camera to take photos, more AI personalizations, user accounts to share inspiration
