The Great Canadian Quiz

Inspiration

We were inspired to choose a Canadian themed game for our project because we wanted to highlight some of the cool things about Canada. We ultimately decided on a trivia app because we felt that it was a fun way to learn a lot of things about Canada quickly. We hope that everyone will enjoy the game, especially international students who have not visited yet that are curious about what Canada is like.

What it does

It is a trivia game where you can choose to attempt 10 Canadian trivia questions either as a single player or against your friends (multiplayer mode not fully functional yet) to see who has the greatest Canadian knowledge.

How we built it

We built the game as a web app using CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

We are all brand new to this kind of coding and had to learn on the fly which was hard given the time constraints. Time was the greatest challenge as we were unable to implement some of the features that we wanted. Particularly we were unable to implement the score tracking as wanted (different page with differing gifs) and we weren't able to get the multiplayer feature working.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to finish the majority of the project in time while also learning and managing everyone's different times and schedules as half the group lives in different time zones.

What we learned

We all learned a lot of new knowledge and methods related to web design, and we also started to gain knowledge regarding the use of GitHub which none of us had used before.

What's next for The Great Canadian Quiz

Hopefully we will be able to get the multiplayer mode working and then further refine the design and functionality of the web app as mentioned in some of the challenges above. Maybe one day we can even host it on the internet as a fun way for anyone in the world to learn about Canada.
