Inspiration
Our entire team loves video games. Naturally, the medal of building a game in a mere 24 hours was too good to miss.
What it does
The Grand Scheme of Things is a video game. There are 4 entities, God, Time, Truth and Man. God created Time, so Man could flow in the river of existence. God created Truth, so Man could fight it's ripple. But, God never told Man of their presence. God bestowed upon Man the flower of Desire. Man gladly accepted, unbeknownst of its shackles.
Time is ever-flowing. Without it, Man cannot exist. Truth is omnipresent. It manifests one of the many paths that Man has. Man is a slave to his Desire. The path of Desire may become one with that of the Truth.
How we built it
Our team has 2 artists, and 2 programmers. We used the Godot Game Engine ver3.2 (an engine that best creates short and exciting games, much like this one). For art, we used Aseprite. We met up at one of ours house and worked for 24 hours straight.
Challenges we ran into
Too little time, we cut short on many modules. However, we believe the immersive experience and the philosophical basis was well captured.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completion of the game! (to an extent) The very idea of Truth being a friend, and that the shackles of regret are irrelevant after the end of time.
What we learned
That it is a poor idea to make a game in 24 hours. Also, the team is a bunch of old friends, and it was an incredible experience. We learnt a lot about how map-builders make maps for platformer adventure games. Some of us improved their vector art skills, their pixel art skills, and most of all, our team's cohesivity improved greatly.
What's next for The Grand Scheme of Things
We shall implement the modules that we skimped out on, and upload the game on itch.io.
I am incredibly proud of my team.
