Inspiration
Looking at the Problem Statements, we thought about how best we could improve on each of the problems. After spending a few days to consolidate and research, amongst all the ideas we came up with, having a gamified platform that incentivizes volunteering and engagement through a simple unified platform really convinced us.
After attending quite a few courses that were gamified, we understood that gamification is a powerful tool when trying to engage a large target audience, as well as in keeping them engaged.
What it does
The Good Place is a virtual platform that gamifies the process of volunteering and engagement between organizations and individuals by providing self-incentivizing projects, certifications, all while connecting users to the larger community, and engaging them on the housing crisis.
How we built it
We looked at previous gamified websites, and tried to think of how exactly we could gamify this process. A lot of housing initiatives are currently reliant on active volunteering through service or assistance. Since the skills gained from these experiences (leadership, organizational, etc.) are highly transferable and useful, we thought we could develop a self-incentivizing system that would leverage project participation against the achievements and merits of participation
Challenges we ran into
Initially we struggled with how best to improve the process of volunteering with technology. Other issues faced were with integrating the Firebase Realtime database
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the site design, which is derived from the Berry React theme, and is intended to keep users engaged and motivated to continuously partake in the project activities.
What we learned
We learnt a lot of React.js to build the site, and also a lot about the housing crisis during a research, which we weren't particularly well-informed about earlier! This was an educative experience for us as well
What's next for The Good Place
We would like to tap into the future and build institutional link-ups through our platform so that schools and institutes may directly interface with these organizations for credits and opportunities
