Inspiration

We were inspired to do this project from the difficulty of determining one's carbon footprint. From deceitful electrical companies to inaccurate calculations, there can be many obstacles to determine find out where carbon emissions can be reduced.

What it does

Our project curates information from reliable databases to evaluate a portion of the carbon footprint of an individual given their location, energy usage, and vehicle model. This allows us to determine how their local electricity is sourced, how much CO2 their vehicle emits, and how much their energy usage affects the environment.

Challenges we ran into

There were many bugs that arose in our software due to a combination of the newness of Next.js 13's APIs and the lack of experience we had with Vercel's Next.js serverless functions. Additionally, we ran into a few unexpected bugs in our React code that took quite a while to sort out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to devise a method to convert raw information from a database query into a clean and easy to understand UX representation.

What we learned

We learned a lot of working with React, Next.js, React Server Components, Serverless Functions, and designing UX.

What's next for us?

With more time, we would dramatically expand the capabilities of our app, to include many more sources of CO2 emissions.
