Inspiration
We were initially inspired by an application on Lizzie's phone that monitors the amount of times that they open up Instagram. We wondered if we could build an application that monitors the amount of time spent on social media, and if it detects that a user is "doomscrolling" (on the application for too long), the application would start screaming at you. We were unsuccessful in this endeavor. We did the following instead...
What it does
This is essentially a web timer that plays "serene sounds" when the timer goes off. We followed a goat aesthetic for.......... unrelated reasons......
How we built it
We used JavaScript, HTML, CSS and React to implement this web application.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had ever used React or JavaScript prior to this project. There were a lot of hurdles to be had there. We also pivoted from our original ambitious idea 4 hours before the deadline because we at least wanted something simple to show.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Honestly, we're proud to have anything working by the deadline. We really persevered through this hackathon and have learned a lot. We dived right into learning JavaScript and React and we're proud that we have something at least to show for it, even if it's simple.
What we learned
Clearly, a lot about React and JavaScript and .tsx files and the like...
What's next for The Goat
We want to actually implement our original idea LOL, but this gives a good base. We think we'll try to create it into a chrome extension for its original purpose.
