Inspiration

The elderly have been hit the hardest during this pandemic. With the help of technology, we have been able to stay connected with our friends and family. Moreover, as youth, we have been able to connect with other youth from across the world through games such as Among Us helping us to maintain social interaction during these tough times. To encourage seniors to do the same, we created an app called “The Game that Connects.” It gives them the opportunity to have meaningful interactions, face to face, while playing Connect 4, Bingo and other multiplayer games using an extremely user-friendly platform.

What it does

This app consists of many multiplayer games such as Connect 4 and Bingo, which will help the elderly to connect with each other and maintain social interaction during these tough times.

How we built it

Using Java and Java Swing, we coded this application using the NetBeans IDE.

Challenges we ran into

As high school students with minimal coding experience, we tried our best to apply our limited knowledge to create our first official application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first hackathon!

What's next for The Games that Connect

Currently, the prototype version of our app requires the seniors to share a device to play the multiplayer games together. Although, sharing a device will create a deeper connection between the two players, and it’s one versus one concept will encourage 2 people to really get to know each other, in the future, this app will be designed to allow seniors to play these multiplayer games with each other across the internet. Moreover, in the future, an automatically generated Google Meets link will be incorporated into this app to allow seniors from all over the world to meet each other and socialize while playing these light-hearted multiplayer games. We will also be adding many more multiplayer games to this app including chess, poker, and battleship to create a larger platform.
