Inspiration
This project was born out of a deep desire to make life feel like an adventure again. In a world overflowing with productivity hacks and habit trackers, I wanted something more magical — a game where you are the main character, and where leveling up isn't just about completing tasks, but about becoming the person you dream of being. I was inspired by games like Zelda, Pokémon, and Persona, as well as the storytelling of Studio Ghibli, and I combined them with my background in coaching, spiritual development, and gamified systems.
What it does
This app gamifies your life as a role-playing game (RPG) — turning your personal growth, habits, goals, and dreams into a magical, story-driven experience.
Users start by choosing (or creating) a unique archetype, each with its own story, emotional tone, strengths, and mythical companion. From there, they:
Track habits, quests, reflections, and challenges — each action earns XP and Coins
Level up their character and stats like Courage, Wisdom, Joy, Discipline, and Magic
Unlock new titles, gain story milestones, and deepen their archetype journey
Buy real-life rewards in a fantastical Hero Store using Coins (like potions = coffee, armor = a hoodie they’ve wanted, etc.)
View their growth visually through XP bars, radar charts, and evolving character sheets
Craft their life story as if they were in a Ghibli-style anime or JRPG
It’s a fusion of habit tracker, character builder, and visual life RPG — built to help dreamers become who they’re meant to be, one action at a time.
How we built it
I started with a MVP requirements doc co-developed with ChatGPT. From there, I built:
User authentication and onboarding
Archetype selector with animated portraits
XP and Coin mechanics
Quests, Habits, and Reflections (all connected to stat progression)
Dynamic character stats like Courage, Wisdom, and Joy
A Hero Store, where users buy real-life rewards with coins
A beautiful home dashboard with spider charts, XP bars, and a character panel
All of this was done step-by-step, block-by-block, using Bolt’s strengths in simplicity and rapid prototyping.
Challenges we ran into
Adapting a poetic, emotional RPG vision into a clean technical spec
Working around platform limitations (like image generation and animation)
Designing data models that would allow growth while staying minimal for MVP
Making sure the game feels like a game — not just another productivity app
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designed a fully gamified life app from scratch, based on original characters, storylines, archetypes, and quests.
Built a working MVP on Bolt, with real functionality: authentication, habit tracking, XP/coin systems, and personalized dashboards.
Created a unique Hero Store that connects in-app rewards to real-life desires, increasing intrinsic motivation and joy.
Wrote a fully integrated Hero's Journey onboarding flow that turns user setup into an epic narrative experience.
Developed 12+ archetypes with deep lore, emotional tone, values, backstories, and AI-generated portrait prompts.
Designed rich visual data tools: radar charts, XP bars, role-based progress bars, and curved progress graphs.
Established a coin + XP dual economy system, with clear logic and smart UX flow.
Integrated reflective journaling and daily review as meaningful game mechanics, connecting life with narrative growth.
Overcame technical challenges like missing packages, async-storage issues, and step-by-step implementation in Bolt.
Maintained focus and scope control through excellent MVP planning, prioritization, and phased development.
What we learned
Building this in Bolt taught me how to break down big, ambitious dreams into modular, achievable parts. I deepened my understanding of user authentication, state management, and UI logic — but even more importantly, I learned to collaborate with AI tools like ChatGPT to create structure, systems, and storylines that are both technically sound and emotionally resonant.
What's next for The Game
- Add the Hero’s Onboarding Journey (Narrative Onramp) Turn first login into an interactive story:
“You’ve been called to an adventure…”
Let users choose their archetype or go on a mini quiz to discover it.
Guide them to define their values, choose their mythical companion, and name their quest.
- Implement XP + Coin Logic (Leveling & Store Economy) Create the logic that:
Awards XP for completing habits/quests.
Gives coins as a reward and lets users spend them in the store.
Tracks level and progress dynamically.
- Add a “Victory Panel” / Daily Reflection Simple journaling form:
“What unexpected victories or moments of pride happened today?”
Each entry adds XP or symbolic points to values like courage, joy, or self-love.
- Add the Core Charts to Dashboard Radar chart: Growth in core values.
Bar chart: Role-based accomplishments (e.g., artist, friend, leader).
XP line chart: Daily/weekly XP trend.
- Role Management System Let users name and track their roles (e.g., “Parent,” “Coach,” “Explorer”).
Assign habits/quests to each role.
Show bar progress by role — visually motivating.
- Gamify Monthly Focus Strip (Immutable Goals) Users define a few “non-negotiable” goals for the month.
Show them as a “quest path” strip (like your arrows).
Can’t be changed mid-month. Optional timer.
- UX Polish & Bug Fixes Improve visual layout, character images, animations.
Handle edge cases in navigation and onboarding.
