Inspiration : Today, AI models remember everything forever. If a user wants their data deleted, we have to retrain the whole model again, which takes days and costs a lot of money. The GDPR law gives users the "Right to be Forgotten," but current AI systems cannot do this efficiently. We wanted to build an AI that can forget specific user data on command without retraining from scratch.

What it does : The Forgetting AI lets users request deletion of their data from a trained AI model. Our system removes the data, updates only the affected parts of the model, and keeps the accuracy almost the same. Users get privacy control, and companies save time and money.

How we built it : We used Python with PyTorch for the AI model. The system splits training data into segments. When a user asks to be forgotten, we find which segments contain their data, remove those points, and retrain only those small segments instead of the entire model. This makes the process 10x faster than full retraining.

Challenges we ran into : The biggest challenge was keeping the model accuracy high after removing data. Sometimes the model would forget important patterns along with the user data. We solved this by using selective weight updates and careful segment management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of : We successfully built a working prototype that can forget a user's data in under 5 seconds. Our method is 90% faster than retraining from scratch and maintains over 95% accuracy.

What we learned : We learned that AI models can be made privacy-compliant without sacrificing performance. Data segmentation is a powerful technique. We also understood the importance of user privacy in AI systems.

What's next for The Forgetting AI: Memory that Fades on Command - We plan to integrate this with large language models and federated learning systems. We also want to build a user-friendly API so developers can easily add forget functionality to their AI apps.
