Inspiration

Star Wars and the fact that good star wars props are too expensive and I'm a student.

What it does

It's a lightsaber. Dueling level lightsabers cost at minimum $300 and I wanted to do it for under $75.

How I built it

Using an arduino, an accelerometer, a powerful LED and a soundboard.

Challenges I ran into

The accelerometer continuously sent random data to the arduino an dthe difficulty lay in interpreting the data to differentiate between standing still, swinging, hitting or spinning.

This was my first hardware project so I needed to learn a lot about the basics. Like voltage curves, how mosfets work, V= IR etc etc

Wire management

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Learning all that basic stuff

What I learned

All that basic stuff.

What's next for The Force Locker

I want to add 3 features, a blade flicker, a color flashing on and off while the blade is in contact with something and the ability to decide the color of your blade on the fly.

If I can perfect this, I'd really like to start selling them. Maybe even move onto other realistic props.
