Inspiration

We wanted to make a cozy game that we would enjoy since we play lots of games like it, we took inspiration from Good Pizza - Great Pizza, Coffee Talk, and Papa's Games.

What it does

A 2D cute, cozy, pixel art style flower shop minigame.

How we built it

We build it off of javascript and visual studio code. All the pixel art was done on Pixelorama and the logo was drawn on Procreate.

Challenges we ran into

Importing graphics, images and their sizes

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are all first year Game Design and Development students and for some of us its our first hackathon, we are proud of how much we were able to accomplish and do as a team in such a short amount of time. We are proud of how fast we were able to create the assets and dialogue and how amazing they look.

What we learned

We learned more on how to work as a team in a project based competition and how to work Figma better and using javascript. We also learned that the more fun you have, the better your work comes out in the end.

What's next for The Flower Shop: Business is Blooming

Add more customers and flower types. Dive deeper into the character personalities and backstories, providing more connections between the characters and the flowers that they request. Give the player a backstory, a reason as to why they own the flower shop. Add another mini game that focuses on the player picking/buying the flowers that they are able to sell in the shop, drawing the player more into the shop aspect of the game. We want to continue to develop this game because in general, video games are a great escape for college students to be able take a break from all of the stress that college brings. More specifically, cozy-type games provide a stress-free environment that many are drawn to because of the low-stakes, familiar activities and calming aesthetic. The Flower Shop takes a step away from your typical cozy game, focusing on a narrative-based style rather than focusing heavily on gameplay. This forces the user to mentally take a break from whatever may be stressing them out and instead focus on the story and aesthetic of the game.
