Inspiration

Cricket is more than just a sport; it’s an emotion shared by millions across the world. As lifelong cricket lovers and VR developers, we wanted to bring that feeling into virtual reality. We wanted players to feel the rush of facing a fast bowler, timing the perfect shot, and hearing the crowd roar — all from their living room. That passion led us to create The Final Overs (TFO), a game that captures the spirit of real cricket in an immersive VR experience.

What it does

TFO lets players step into the shoes of a real batter. Using realistic motion tracking and physics, every shot feels natural — from delicate flicks to massive sixes. Players can enjoy quick matches, or long tournaments, earn Glory Points, unlock exclusive bats and stadiums, and climb ranks on the global leaderboard. It’s designed to be accessible to everyone — whether you’re a casual player or a serious cricket fan.

How we built it

We built TFO in Unreal Engine using Meta’s VR SDKs and our custom-built cricket physics system. We focused on hand and bat tracking accuracy, realistic ball behavior, and natural player feedback. The environments — from local grounds to massive international stadiums — were modeled to reflect the energy and beauty of real cricket venues. Our small team of passionate VR programmers and 3D artists worked tirelessly to optimize the game for both Quest 2 and Quest 3.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was translating cricket’s complex physics into intuitive VR gameplay while keeping performance optimized for standalone headsets. Balancing realism with accessibility required continuous testing and refinement to ensure new players could quickly understand the game without sacrificing depth for experienced players.

Another key challenge was retention. The game had strong natural replayability, but it lacked a meaningful progression system that rewarded long-term play. With TFO 2.0, we’re introducing the Glory Point System, which lets players earn points based on performance and consistency, unlocking recognition and a clear path from beginner to expert. This structured progression gives players goals to chase, strengthens long-term engagement, and significantly improves overall retention.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud that TFO became one of the most popular VR cricket games on the Meta Quest store, loved by thousands of players worldwide. It’s been featured in several gaming showcases and praised for its realism and replayability.

What we learned

We learned that passion, persistence, and community feedback can turn a small indie idea into a globally loved experience. Listening to our players has been key to every major update.

What’s New & Next for The Final Overs – VR Cricket

With the 2.0 major update, we've now elevated TFO to a stage where it will certainly connect more with cricket fans. Personalized dressing room, customized score tickers and boards, and above all, new Glory Points system makes TFO a more personal experience for fans. Additionally, we are actively working on Career Mode, Online Multiplayer, Tournaments, Challenges and Test; features that will take TFO from a great VR game to a full cricket universe. The innings have just begun!
