Inspiration
There is a lot of food that goes to waste nowadays, and restaurants are just throwing hundreds of dollars of food waste over the course of a few days, and The Feed Project could help give back to the community by using a email messenger to email people about surplus food, homeless, or are financially struggling.
What it does
Our program sends and receives emails to clients who sign up for The Feed Project, who are in need of free food which is available for pickup in the area.
How we built it
We used Java, and we had used SMTP and POP3 to send and receive emails from clients, and had used a gmail account to control where all the emails were sent from and received emails from.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges that we ran into was with the connection to the internet that we had throughout the Hackathon. It didn't allow us to send emails successfully through our private emails, and it had made writing the programs to send and receive the emails more difficult to debug.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being and being able to interface an SQL and being able to send and receive emails successfully using Java database connectivity.
What we learned
We learned how to use SQL and we learned how to implement SMTP and POP3.
What's next for The FEED Project
For our next The FEED Project, we could implement our data and program more streamlined and widespread, making it truly accessible to the people who need it.
