Inspiration
Fantasy writers, and writers in general, may struggle with making money.
What it does
How I built it
I made 2 dashboards in Google Looker Studio and embedded them using the embed code that the website provided. I used Google Sheets to scrape the Broadway data from https://www.broadwayleague.com/research/grosses-broadway-nyc/ and the publishing data from https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/chhavidhankhar11/amazon-books-dataset.
I wrote some of the HTML and CSS for the text and fonts, but I used ChatGPT to write the Javascript file, troubleshoot errors in the HTML, CSS, and Javascript code, and generally clean up the code.
Challenges I ran into
I originally wanted to analyze my data with SQL, but I spent hours struggling to figure out how to simply set it up on computer, so I decided to pivot to a website that still used some of that data. I'm not super familiar with Javascript, so I relied on ChatGPT a lot on that front. I wasn't able to create the scrolling parallax effect that I wanted. I also didn't have the time to make each part of the website into different web pages, but I would like to do that in the future.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I was able to make a finish result that looks relatively clean. There's definitely room for improvement, but I haven't worked on a website in a really long time. I'm glad I'm now a bit more familiar with Javascript.
What I learned
Javascript will definitely take some time for me to learn. Google Looker Studio was fun to work on. In the future, I would definitely want to make sure I have the languages set up before a hackathon begins.
What's next for The Fantasy Guild
I'd like to refine the website and possibly make it into an app that would refresh the data
