Inspiration
We drew inspiration for this game from the serene beauty of nature, calmness of music, and the desire to create a unique space where players can find relaxation and wonder in a dynamically responsive world.
What it does
Our game has a one-player character, who wanders the world, looking around, meeting new friends and admiring the beautiful scenery. There are some easy minigames, but we have excluded any type of score, competition, time limit or anything else, that could ruin the calmness part of the game.
How we built it
We used "Gamemaker" as the engine for the game, writing code from scratch. We used "pixilart.com" to draw some of the art, and AI generating tools, such as "Adobe Firefly".
Challenges we ran into
Our expectations of what we could do with this game and how many interactions with characters we could have were limited by the time that we had to comply by, given that nobody in our team has had significant experience creating a game before. We learned everything as we went along, since it was all new to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our idea and happy, that we get to show some of the features we wanted to include in the game. For us, it is a great accomplishment and something we are also proud of that the game runs, it looks good and in this one piece of the game world, we got to showcase all of the aspects that we wanted from the very start.
What we learned
We learnt that designing a game takes significantly more time than originally expected, we learned a great deal of object oriented programming, we had to learn to adapt quickly to various difficulities and try and prioritize the most important features.
What's next for Serenescape
We hope, that we can finish this game, add the features that we really want, and maybe release the game for people to see.
