Inspiration

We all procrastinate. But what really drains us isn’t the delay, it’s the guilt that follows. I wanted to build something small and joyful to break that cycle. The Excuse Liberator was born from that idea: give people permission to pause, laugh, and let go.

What it does

The Excuse Liberator is a one-click web app that gives users a random, funny excuse and a freedom note to help them drop guilt and move on. It’s fast, lightweight, and works on desktop and mobile. Users click once, laugh, and feel better instantly. And confetti is always welcome.

How I built it

I built the entire project using Bolt.new, writing a single prompt that describes the complete behavior and design of the app. The prompt includes logic for random selection, UI updates, and light/dark mode support. I included a branded image linking back to Bolt and a footer credit linking to my X profile and personal website.

Challenges I ran into

The main challenge was expressing everything: logic, design, etc., inside one prompt. Though the app is very simple, shooting a single prompt was not easy for me (a beginner). Another challenge was triggering visual confetti in a satisfying way without relying on external libraries.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I built something emotionally impactful in a very constrained situation. The Excuse Liberator feels polished and complete, though it was built from a single prompt and no external tools. It brings joy and a sense of relief, which is great for a tool this small.

What I learned

I learned that limitations can trigger creativity. Writing the perfect prompt to get what I had in mind was a challenge, as every word mattered. I realized that a cool idea doesn’t need to be complex. Humor and a little confetti go a long way.

What's next for The Excuse Liberator

I’d love to include AI to make it more dynamic, and maybe a toggle between funny and serious modes. But the core idea is staying the same: small emotional tools can have a big impact.
