Inspiration

The pandemic has changed the hospitality industry leaving most bars understaffed and understocked due to a shortage of bartenders and a strained supply chain.

What it does

The Drunk Arm is an AI-powered robot bartender that can do more than just pour preset drinks into a cup. It has the ability to customize your drinks according to your preference.

How we built it

We used AWS Lex for natural language understanding, EC2 to host apps, Lambda functions for serverless endpoints, AWS Rekognition for face recognition, AWS Cloudant for data storage. These were deployed on AWS Wavelength to provide low-latency/high availability service.

How it works

  1. Sign up
  2. Place a call to The Drunken Arm using the number you registered with stating what drink you'd like and how you'd like it. At the end of the call, you receive a confirmation text.
  3. The printer prints out your QR code along with your name and picture (retrieved from the database), which can be used for authentication when your order is ready.
  4. Once your drink is ready, you need to send a selfie as an MMS to the robot for identification to collect your drink.
  5. Enjoy your drink!

Challenges we ran into

  • AWS outage
  • synchronization issues with hardware

Accomplishments that we're proud of
