Inspiration
The Dragon Within Me was inspired by an inner shift I felt during a period of personal reflection: a mix of nostalgia, resilience, and a desire to visualize the emotional “dragon” we all carry inside. I wanted to create a piece that transforms internal struggle into beauty, movement, and symbolic evolution.
What it does
The film uses generative AI to portray an emotional journey through imagery, sound, and rhythm. It externalizes an inner force, power, vulnerability, and transformation through a series of evolving visual metaphors.
How I built it
I created the film using MidJourney for concept and character development, Runway for animation, and DaVinci Resolve for editing and atmosphere. The process involved iterating prompts, refining aesthetic consistency, and shaping a cohesive emotional arc from AI-generated imagery.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was maintaining visual continuity and emotional tone across different AI tools, which tend to drift stylistically. Guiding the models to keep the character consistent while still preserving expressive variation required dozens of iterations and a careful balancing act between control and spontaneity.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I’m proud that the final piece feels emotionally truthful and visually cohesive. It captures the original idea an inner transformation in a way that feels both personal and universally relatable.
What I learned
I learned how to build an emotional narrative within an AI pipeline, how to treat AI tools as creative collaborators, and how to maintain humanity and intention in a medium that can easily become overly technical.
What's next for The Dragon Within Me
I plan to expand this project into a small series exploring inner archetypes and emotional states through AI-driven animation. I’m also refining my workflow to push consistency, character depth, and storytelling even further.
