Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from what the libraries are currently used for on campus - a good percentage of the student population have never trafficked the library, while those who do only use the study spaces in the same capacities. We wanted to create something that would make the library known for more than just individual studying, but a collaboration of all students, of all backgrounds and needs, working together in the same space with new and exciting capabilities.
What it does
The Diverse Research Lab provides an interactive space where students can collaborate on discovery and research that is completely accessible with no barriers focused on promoting the diversity and inclusion of races, ethnicity, and backgrounds of all those attending.
How we built it
We used Home.By.Me to build our layouts and the library database for our research.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out the logistics of the space and making it accessible, functional, and practical.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the language we have written that demands for a collaborative and diverse space on campus available to anyone, and the aspects we have designed that are attractive to us as students.
What we learned
We learned how the current spaces we take for granted are virtually inaccessible to those that are disabled, and that we should use our abilities to fight for access for all.
What's next for The Diverse Research Lab
Ideally, The Diverse Research Lab would become a real plan with innovative science and space researched and identified to best fit these libraries.
